Rest in Peace

Yesterday Grace lost a dear brother in Christ. Though most would know his wife, Amber, Brian was a frequent resident in Son City. Always taking a back seat to his humble wife and his cute-as-a-bug boys (Grant and Isaac), Brian was a man far too young to leave this world.

His sudden death reminds us of the preciousness of life. The funeral will be in Missouri, with a memorial at Grace sometime next week. As a young widow with two young children, Amber asks that instead of flowers you consider more practical support. Gifts for Amber can be left with Janie Cupp at Grace.

James 1:27 states, "Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you."

Holy Land Journey

Yesterday was the first day I felt normal after returning from a 9 day tour of the Holy Land. I'm working on a summary of the trip which I will upload in the coming days. For now, suffice it to say it was an incredible trip, full of unique opportunities and the never-ending sense of something bigger than yourself. More to come on that.

On another note, I was blessed to travel with my mom, dad and sister. I really missed my wife and kids, but they did a good job of keeping me company. You can see the four of us below, standing in front of the Dome on the Rock, on the Temple Mount.

A God of Second Chances

Yesterday I preached from Revelation 7 about the Tribulation Saints. Listen to it here.

I love the fact that we have a God of second chances! I've certainly needed my share, and it seems that nearly every day God reminds me that all the people around me need a second chance (or three or four).

Thank you, God, for teaching me mercy. May my judgmental heart and self-righteous spirit fade in the glory of your mercy and grace. Have your way in me and in the lives of those around me. Show your patient redemption, and we will all applaud!
